He was born on 2 June 1943 and his birth name is' Gnanathesikan'.Illaiyaraaja joined Dhanraj Master as a student to studying musical instruments,His guru Dhanraj master change his name just 'Raaja '.In his first movie 'Annakili' producer Panchu Arunachalam added Illaiya infront of 'Raaja 'because of another Music director was there in that period.
